A resident of Wellington, Florida, Dr. Charles Humble is the founder and president of NITV Federal Services (NFS), the world’s leading forensic voice stress analysis company. As the founder of NFS, Dr. Charles Humble helped develop the Computer Voice Stress Analyzer in 1986.
A Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA) is a truth verification tool used by over 2,500 law enforcement agencies, including the US Military Special Forces, Atlanta P.D., and the California Highway Patrol. A CVSA comprises a microphone that is plugged into a computer that analyzes and displays an individual’s responses to questions. When using the tool, you don’t need to attach wires to the subject whose responses are being tested as you would do in a polygraph. The only thing required is the microphone, which captures the subject’s voice.
The manufacturers of the CVSA don’t claim that their devices can detect lies. Instead, they market them as devices that can measure micro tremors, which voice pattern changes caused by stress or the physical effort when someone is being deceptive. CVSA devices have been used to interrogate suspects and verify witness statements in homicide, robbery, and white-collar crimes, among others. They have also been used for pre-employment background checks.
